Handcrafted using the traditional Japanese Yakisugi technique, this set includes two one-of-a-kind live edge sushi serving trays and two pairs of handmade black walnut chopsticks all made using sustainably acquired wood and finished with a beeswax and food-grade mineral oil paste made right here on the farm.
The Reflection:
We LOVE eating sushi, and good sushi is hard to come by here in Oklahoma. Finding joy and relaxation while also exploring your creativity is also something that is hard to come by in the over-stimulated world we live in today.
Making this piece was special in a lot of ways - The sushi trays were made from an American Elm tree that was damaged in a storm that we helped a family member clean up. We used the ancient Japanese technique of Yakisugi that has withstood the test of time for hundreds of years and is a part of our family heritage (bonus points: we got to play with fire). We also finished the wood with beeswax from our first beehive here on the farm.
We think it’s important to make an intentional effort to slow down and take the time to appreciate some of the joyful moments in life, and we hope you find as much joy in sharing a meal with a friend or loved one, as we did creating this.
